Fetal Viability Scan: Helping you manage the first trimester
Early Pregnancy Scan – as soon as possible in the First Trimester.
The first trimester is a particularly difficult time for the mother. Many pregnant women will tell you they are able to breathe a sigh of relief after getting through these first three months. This is not only where all these new symptoms flare up from nowhere, this is also a time that determines whether or not you will have a healthy pregnancy.
Early Pregnancy Scan – Determining your due date
There are two main ways to determine your due date and your fetus’ gestational age. This is by determining the date of the pregnant mother’s last period (LMP), and by measuring the crown rump length of the fetus or CRL. It is what it sounds like, as the length of the fetus is measured from it’s crown (head) to it’s rump (or buttocks)
Fetal Viability Scan: Distinguishing a healthy pregnancy from a high-risk pregnancy
Early Pregnancy Scan is a Viability Scan
An early pregnancy scan is also known as a Fetal Viability Scan, precisely because it checks the viability of the fetus. This is assessed by identifying a moving pumping fetal heart action (a confirmation that your fetus’ heart is beating properly), the size of the yolk size and either a single or multiple intrauterine pregnancy. By six weeks into gestation, a fetal heart beat is detected by using ultrasound technology. During the first trimester, this is a very crucial time at which this factor matters.
Early Ultrasound Scan: Using Sound Waves to Determine The Factors that Matter
Done through ultrasound technology, using sound waves, this is quite an accurate way to determine fetal measurements. If there is no discrepancy between the LMP and the CRL, meaning if it is no more than one week apart, the due date remains conclusive. However, in cases where there are more than a week’s discrepancy, this means the due date will be adjusted favoring the due date found by measuring Crown Rump Length a critical measurement only available with early pregnancy scan.
